the club is named after a backstreet in liverpool, england, birthplace of founder derek bentley and his first group, the vitamines. the original name is a back-handed way to reference bentley's 1950 book, which likened the motorcycle clubs to preying wolves, preying on people and preying on each other.
the illicit drug trade goes far beyond what you read in the papers. the guardian can reveal that police have dismantled 17,000 street drug dealing enterprises, with more than a hundred officers arrested in each operation. a decade on, the industry is less volatile, and trafficking is now dominated by organisations such as fentanyl and heroin. you can read more about this on the upcoming drugs in britain special feature
there are numerous smaller-scale interventions made by enemy forces, but the main action takes place in the tiny and picturesque town of haywards drift. virtually the only scene set in the town is the bar fight, with the mutants (and some humans) the main combatants in the streets of haywards drift. the town is actually modeled after the real life town of haywards heath in west sussex, england, and many of the buildings used for filming are from the historic town. the mutants originally hail from differing parts of the globe, though they all share a similar ideal, with the notable exception of alfie "the jester" jones, who seems more inclined to violence. alfie (voiced by alex sharp) comes from thailand, and sees the world as a place where no one's weak and no one's strong. he lives in haywards drift mainly because he thinks it will be the place where he can fit in. 3d9ccd7d82
